Treixadura | Godello | Loureira

  • 2021 - Ribeiro - Spain

  • Coto de Ibedo

  • Rating: 3.5/5

We bought this Ribeiro Wine at Lidl Spain. Ribeiro region is a small D.O. located on the northwestern coast of Spain. Surrounded by Rias Baixas and Ribeira Sacra its extension is around 2500 hectares and has approximately 30 active Wine producers. Over 90% of the Wine produced in Ribeiro is white*. This Wine is a blend of Treixadura, Godello and Loureira. Treixadura is the main grape variety of the region, and also the primary grape used in this blend.

Nose before swirling

On the first approach to the glass, we can smell a dominant ripe pear aroma, followed by some vanilla and kumquats.

Nose after swirling

After swirling the glass peaches, ripe pears and nuts take the stage. Afterwards, some citric notes can be felt.

Taste in the mouth

In the mouth, a slight bitterness can be appreciated, while the lemon invades our palate. Vanilla and butter make themselves noted too. The presence of the latter two implies contact time with the lees. Usually, from the taste profile of this Wine you would expect a higher acidity, however, this one is mild. This Coto de Ibedo is also a dry Wine. The finish is of an intermediate length lasting 2 to 3 seconds.

After smell in the glass

The glass smells clean, just faint citric notes.

Conclusions:

We have really enjoyed this bottle. For the price it is a great buy. Simple enough not to overpower a dish, but with a slight complexity that gives reasons to talk about it.

All in all, we believe that this is a solid 3.5/5. Worth having 1 or 2 bottles for when friends come home to have dinner during the weekend.
