Rheingau - Riesling 2021 - Leitz
Today we are having a Wine made with the queen of white grapes, Riesling! It is a young Riesling from a VDP* producer, Leitz. This cellar has most of its production near the University of Geisenheim, the most recognised University for the Wine industry in Germany. So, hopefully their Wines will be on par to the academic excellence of their surroundings!
Nose before swirling
Before swirling the glass, green apple comes to our noses. After a second time, lemon notes appear.
Nose after swirling
After swirling the glass, an intense mineral aroma can be felt, and to our already refreshing green apple and lemon, lime joins the nose.
Taste in the mouth
In the mouth, this Wine feels really dry. Its stylistic high acidity is perceived at the first contact with our palate. Once again, green apple and lemon are the main descriptors we can find, both extremely typical of this grape variety. Lastly, its finish is relatively short, inviting you to take another sip.
After smell in the glass
The aromas that linger in the glass once it is empty are mainly citric. Moreover, it is clean, showing its expert handling by the Cellarmen.
Conclusions:
This is a typical Riesling from Rheingau: fresh, young, vibrant. While this years' production (2021) is what is to be expected from a great quality producer, last years' Wine was slightly better.
All in all, this is a good Wine, but not a great Wine. I would rate it 3.5/5.
(1 = poor; 2 = acceptable; 3 = good; 4 = very good; 5 = outstanding
