Baden - Grauer Burgunder PP 2019 - Ihringen WG
Today we are tasting a Grauer Burgunder (Pinot Gris) from Ihringen, Kaiserstühl - which is located in the wine region of Baden, in southern Germany. It has a flavour profile quite characteristic of its variety: clean and nicely balanced. We are quite excited about this review because our sommelier did a part of his studies on the Cellar where this Wine was made: the Kaiserstühler Winzergenossenschaft Ihringen.
Nose before swirling
Before swirling the glass, defined aromas reminiscing of lime, peach, and faint passion fruit can be felt.
Nose after swirling
After swirling the glass, the peach aroma takes the center stage, the citric aroma diminishes, the passion fruit gets more notorious, and floral notes start to show.
Taste in the mouth
Dry in the palate. Lime takes once again the stage, so does passion fruit. As it's quite dry, its acidity is really elegant. There is a slight cookie taste, due to its long exposure to the lees. It has a medium finish with some exotic fruits.
After smell in the glass
The after smell on the glass is clean, with faint citric aromas.
Conclusions:
All in all, this is a good Grauer Burgunder (Pinot Gris) with characteristic aromas and tastes of the varietal. It was bought from Lidl Weinwelt for 7,49€, having a good price/quality ratio.
As a rating, we would rate this wine 3.5/5. It is above average for its price, but it hasn't taken that extra step towards greatness.
