Württemberg - Edition Gourment 2020 Chardonnay - Württembergische Weingartner - ZG e.G.
Today we are tasting a different style of Chardonnay. This Chardonnay is from the last harvest, first 2020 Wine I found on supermarket shelves, so I just couldn’t ignore it. For its 4.49€ price tag, we were positively surprised. Fruity and fresh, this wine feels like a hot summer night dream.
Nose before swirling
In the first nose, citric aromas - that make us think on lemons - takes the stage, followed by passion fruit and some freshly cut grass.
Nose after swirling
After swirling, the main focus on the glass is a strong mango aroma with passion fruit, and also slight floral aromas come to bare.
Taste in the mouth
During the attack, passion fruit dominates the palate, with grapefruit and pineapple playing also an important role. This Wine is light in the mouth, almost feeling like water! Due to its acidity, it’s noticeably fresh. Its acidity is medium to high, which can be noted on how much you salivate afterwards. The finish of this Wine is of medium length, but during its peak is intense.
After smell in the glass
The smells that linger on the glass are fresh and citric. This is a clean wine.
Conclusions:
We were pleasantly surprised with this Wine since our past experiences with Chardonnays from Württemberg (Germany) were acceptable to good at best. This time, as soon as we smelt the contents of our glasses, we got taken to a warmer and more tropical-feeling place. With its huge variety of fruitful aromas and tastes, you feel like you are in Brazil eating at a fruits table in a hotel. This is a Wine we will definitely have on our private cellars for this spring without a doubt.
As a rating, this Wine is a 3.5/5. It’s really good, but sometimes its acidity becomes too dominant. We find it best to be paired with some fatty or spicy food, for its acidity to play a nice roll on cleaning the palate.
