This review won't be as our other reviews. As we have to get ready and do our new years eve purchases, these will be flash reviews! During the next week, all of them will be reviewed in-depth with our normal analysis of each stage of the tasting experience.
Hope this small article can help you decide on your sparkling bottles!
Rheingau - Deutscher Sekt Chardonnay - Fürst von Metternich - Trocken
This Sekt was really nice, with mild acidity and some creamy feeling to booth. Its main aromas are green apple, lemon, and dashes of passion-fruit. Its finish is smooth with a medium length, with lots of grapefruit and green apple.
All in all, a nice Sekt.
Rating: 3.5/5
Unstrut - Deutscher Sekt - Rotkäppchen - Halbtrocken
For its price (a whooping 3.79€!) this Sekt was good. Citrus aromas with some cookies on the back (a good indication that the Sekt was in contact with the lees for some time). Grapefruit and lychees come to mind during the attack. It has a nice acidity that pairs well with its citric tastes. Its finish is really short, but the grapefruit lingers in the mouth.
For how much you are paying, it earns a solid 3/5.

Sant Sadurní D’Anoia - Cava traditional method - Carta Nevada - Freixenet - Dry
The aromas of this Cava are the ones a good sparkling should have. Lots of bakery aromas like cookies, butter, some spices, and a slight citric aroma too. Its spirited acidity and medium sweetness play a balanced game in the mouth. Its ending is of medium length with a slight fruitness. When the glass is empty some animal tones plus volatile acids can be smelt, but, that's something to be expected from a sparkling done via the traditional method.
All in all, the best sparkling of the evening. It has a good price, it’s easy to drink, has the aromas a good sparkling should have… all in all, the Cava I will be buying this 31!
Rating: 4/5
Spain - Mia - Sparkling Moscato - Freixenet - Sweet
Where to start with this Wine, it feels like a fruit salad, aromas of maracuja, pear, citrics and some exotic fruits come to mind on the nose. In the palate, you feel fruits like plums and apricots. Its mild acidity and high sweetness don’t work well with each other, it feels out of balance. When the glass is empty you can smell still some fruity leftover aromas and some sulfites too (due to its high sweetness its something to be expected).
This is something nice to drink in summer, but, as a sparkling, for New Year's Eve, it's just out of place. Though its well made with no mishandlings, it’s just for another type of celebration.
As a sparkling Wine for new years Eve: 2/5. As a sparkling to have in an Aperó or during summer 3/5.
Rating: 2/5 (3/5 in another context)
