Castilla - Oleada Barcelona 2019 - Rosado
This Tempranillo rosé is really something. Elegant, delicate and refreshing. It’s from D.O.C. Castilla, but from a lower quality category called “Vino de la Tierra”. But don’t get me wrong, the content of this bottle is quite good. This is a rosé that I will buy time and time again.
Nose before swirling
Before swirling, we get a very delicate floral aroma, like the ones you get on the first weeks of spring when all the wildflowers bloom. And after a second deep inhalation, exotic fruits like mango and passion fruit come to the scene.
Nose after swirling
After having swirled the glass, elderberry flowers become extremely defined, and those exotic fruit aromas give way to a more characteristical red paprika and strawberries.
Taste in the mouth
As soon as this Wine is over your tongue, the floral aroma takes the backseat being overtaken by its characteristic tastes of red paprika and strawberries. The sweetness and the acidity play a well-balanced game on your palate, making us think this Wine to be off-dry. Though its ending is short, it’s quite intense.
After Smell in the glass
Once the glass is empty, the smell is really clean, no off-putting smells can be found (that’s always a good indication of how good are the employees on the cellar!). And even though the wine is mostly gone from the glass, the floral aromas return to the glass for one last time.
Conclusions:
This rose is lovely. It’s a great example of how rosés are made in Spain. I would compare this rosé to be on par with most of the well-known examples of Rosé de Provence and Rosé de Corse, and for its 5.12€ price tag, a good wine to have. Ideally to be enjoyed in spring or summer by the pool or by the coast. Apart from that, this is a typical wine of its region, well done and clean.
I wouldn't be comfortable on rating this wine lower than 3.5/5
(1 = poor; 2 = acceptable; 3 = good; 4 = very good; 5 = outstanding)
